Test your own knowledge and understanding of Jesus’ teaching

Jesus commanded that his disciples should: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).

What are the key themes of Jesus teaching?

How well do you know and understand Jesus’s commands?

In both the Teach Them To Obey books, Jesus’s commands have been uniquely grouped and summarised in terms of what we might call three high-level Kingdom Fundamentals and nine lower-level Kingdom Practices as illustrated in the diagram below.

Instructions:

  • From your understanding of Jesus’ teaching, suggest a suitable title for each Kingdom Fundamental and each Kingdom Practice shown in the diagram.

  • Think about your suggested titles. Ideally use an imperative verb (giving a command) and a noun (e.g., eat your vegetables, walk to London, have a bath).  For example you might think that:
    - Kingdom Fundamental 3 is “Party with friends
    - Kingdom Practice 7 is “Educate your children”
but these might not be particularly in keeping with Jesus’s teaching!

  • Test yourself and see what you come up with - the results might surprise you.

Don’t look further down the page until you’ve done it though!
